Supplying Back to School Essentials
Over 130 students will be ready for the upcoming school year after receiving brand new backpacks, stuffed with essential school supplies, as well as new coats for the chillier months ahead. To sweeten the experience, students and their families also were treated to free Whit’s frozen custard, all during the First Annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive on July 22, hosted by the Central Ohio Echelon chapter and The Salvation Army Chapel at Worthington Woods.
In addition to shopping and frozen treats, the organizations also provided families with hot dogs, inflatables, and games for all ages.
“We know preparing students for the upcoming school year can be stressful for some families so we wanted to make it a fun event that everyone could enjoy,” said Jacob Burke, the Central Ohio Echelon Chapter President “Partnering ensured that the event would be a success.”
Receiving the backpacks is not just about preparedness but also sets students up for success in other ways.
“Ensuring all students have the necessary tools helps level the playing field and create a more equitable learning environment,” Burke said. “We hope these students feel more prepared and confident, which could positively impact their academic performance and self-esteem.”
Echelon members participate in a variety of networking, volunteer, and fundraising activities for the Salvation Army. These activities directly support Salvation Army services within a chapter’s local community. Whether they are serving, attending a social event, or raising money, Echelon strives to be a connected community full of people who are making a difference.
