Community Call To Help Stock the Shelves

Oct 23, 2025

The Salvation Army in Central Ohio is alerting central Ohioans of an urgent need to replenish and provide for food pantries throughout the community. As of September, the inventory at all Salvation Army food pantries has decreased while the number of people being supported by these outlets will increase as the colder months approach.
“Some of the resources we had before to help us get food onto our shelves, we no longer have,” said Major Jodi Lloyd. “We are seeking food donations or monetary donations to help us replenish.”
Households in Ohio seeking help from charitable hunger relief providers face a wide array of obstacles to food security due to factors including economic instability, health issues, and systemic inequities. Research has shown that households with children, elderly members, or individuals with disabilities are particularly vulnerable to food insecurity due to higher living expenses, limited income opportunities, and greater healthcare costs. Additionally, minority populations often experience higher rates of food insecurity due to disparities in employment, education, and access to resources.

Locally, the Salvation Army in Central Ohio operates eight food pantries that serve a projected 10,220 households, 35,000 individuals, and 12,200 children in a year.

Fortunately, there are many ways community members can assist.

“It can be as simple as hosting a food drive of non-perishable goods,” said Major Philip Llyod. “Or people can text the word FEEDCBUS to 31-333 and that will help us raise money to buy more food.”

Donations also can be made through the website at salvationarmycentralohio.org where people can purchase food items from a registry or donate money digitally.

“A $25 gift helps provide a week of balanced meals—21 nutritious meals for one person,” said Major Philip. “We greatly appreciate any and all help we receive.”
